HEY CAN I ASK YOU A QUESTION?
What is web design?
The intent of web design is to create a website — a collection of online content including documents and applications that reside on a web server/servers. A website may include text, images, sounds and other content, and may be interactive.
Web design is similar (in a very simplistic way) to traditional print publishing. Every website is an information display container, just as a book; and every web page is like the page in a book. However, web design uses a framework based on digital code and display technology to construct and maintain an environment to distribute information in multiple formats. Taken to its fullest potential, web design is undoubtedly the most sophisticated and increasingly complex method to support communication in today’s world.
How do web designers differ?
A web designer can create web design on behalf of an agency, as part of a collective of individuals who each have specific skillsets. A web designer can also be a freelance web designer, or contract designer. In this case he or she usually has a wide skillset, but will sometimes contract out elements of the work to others to deliver a full service to you the client.
What type of designers are you?
We are creative web designers. This means our work is generally unique (unless you request different), thoughtful, carefully planned, and we research your competition to see what kind of website would set you apart.
Our web design work can be more artistic than other web designers and it definitely has a international feel. There are a lot of general web designers out there though who will give you something very cheap and it’s quite likely they are giving you a cookie-cutter template they have modified, or one that is made with tables instead of CSS (quite backwards and makes your site outdated quickly). Its style is not unique but you may prefer it.
Fast-turnaround web designers usually don’t do any research on you, your company, your customers or your competitors which is why they take less time to complete the work.
Do I have to sign a contract for the work/web design you do for me?
Not a contract, no. We do have terms and conditions and will make these available to you before we perform any work for you or your business.
What’s the difference between a static and a dynamic web page?
Static pages don’t change content and layout with every request unless a human (web master/programmer) manually updates the page. A simple HTML page is an example of static content.
Dynamic pages adapt their content and/or appearance depending on end-user’s input/interaction or changes in the computing environment (user, time, database modifications, etc.)
Can I get a website I can update myself (editable website)?
Yes. In fact there are some distinct advantages to having a website you can update yourself.
Why would we want an editable website?
You can save money by updating it yourself. You could pay a web developer thousands of dollars to build a Content Management System for your business. The content management platform we use offers you a professional looking website that is inexpensive and easy to maintain, with an incredible number of options for ecommerce, social media and product catalogues. If you don’t have the time, wouldn’t you rather give your interns and employees an A-B-C method of updating your website?
Websites like CNET, Ford, ZDNET and various other big-guns use the same Content Management System we use to build our editable websites. It’s the easiest and cheapest way to update your own website. It’s very easy to use. Can you send an email? Have you ever created a Microsoft Word document? Then you can update your own website. Why use another bloated and non-compliant CMS when you could a lightweight administration interface that is the easiest and most intuitive by far?
Our Editable websites smash the competition. The search engines will love your website – Google and the other search engines love the platform we design editable websites on – meaning your website will show up more often over your competition.
Why do I need to know the audience for my website?
Defining the audience is a key step in the website planning process. The audience is the group of people who are expected to visit your website – the market being targeted. These people will be viewing the website for a specific reason and it is important to know exactly what they are looking for when they visit the site. A clearly defined purpose or goal of the site as well as an understanding of what visitors want to do or feel when they come to your site will help to identify the target audience. Upon considering who is most likely to need or use the content, a list of characteristics common to the users such as:
- Audience Characteristics
- Information Preferences
- Computer Specifications
- Web Experience
Taking into account the characteristics of the audience will allow an effective website to be created that will deliver the desired content to the target audience.
